Add resources to the artifact (jar, war)

Additional resources (property files, xml, web, etc.. ) can be included in the artifact generated by Maven.

Add files in ${basedir}/src/main/resources
Any directories or files placed within the ${basedir}/src/main/resources directory are packaged in your artifact with the exact same structure starting at the base of the Jar/War.

Here you can put additional property files or the Hibernate mapping files for instance.

Add Web resources
Add files and directories under ${basedir}/src/main/webapp. Here you typically put JSPs, CSS, Javascripts, etc..

Add resources to classpath

Add files in ${basedir}/src/test/resources. Here resources such as property files can go if required to run the unit testing.
